There aren’t too many things that we can chalk up two positives under the Rona, but this is definitely one of them.

Tortugueros del Desemboque, a conversation group among the Comcáac in the Sonora region of Mexico released over 2,250 baby Olive Ridley sea turtles into the Gulf of California this year, more than double of precious years when numbers ranged from 500 to 1,000. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources Red List, the species has seen a 30 to 50 percent reduction of global population size in recent decades and is at risk for extinction. The change is attributed to decreased human activity and efforts of the Indigenous conservation group.
