Today, the Fourth of July, the USA’s birthday, my veteran friend was kicked off of a @spiritairlines flight. He briefly removed his face covering from his nose so he could eat and drink something. He explained to the attendant that he was feeling faint and has a medical condition under which the American Disabilities Act he is protected and is not required to wear a mask if it is a danger to his health. He also does not have to disclose his medical condition. The flight attendant and her supervisor escalated the situation, he was publicly shamed over the intercom. The captain made the decision to have everyone get off of the plane. My friend was then subjected to ridicule and physical threats of violence from fellow passengers. One passenger did thank him for his service (thank you patriot). He ultimately had to wait for medical personnel and for the police to escort him off the plane where he was subjected to more ridicule. He did not have to be invasively tested for COVID and the police were nothing but professional and appropriate. @spiritairlines did not reimburse his ticket and he had to buy another. He has now made it home to his family safely. Is this what America is now? Is this what the #newnormal looks like? If so it is shameful and disturbing. Praise God that this situation was not worse.
